Our Activities

Students Scholarship

We also provide scholarships to deserving but needy and economically disadvantaged students. We understand that a little effort from us can go a long way in helping them continue their studies and instilling a sense of determination to study hard. Our scholarships aim to support these students in achieving their educational goals, ensuring that they have access to the resources they need to succeed. We are committed to empowering young minds through education and will continue to support deserving students in the future.

Cloth and Blanket Distribution

Apart from food and shelter, clothing is a fundamental need that bestows respect and dignity. In marginalized areas of Bengal, many underprivileged individuals struggle to afford regular clothing and winter essentials due to their economic constraints. To address this issue, we conduct distribution programs, providing clean and wearable clothes, shawls, and blankets to those in need. Firstly we collect used but rewearable clothes from door to door and then sort out all items. Besides old clothes, we also distribute new clothes like tantuj saree, dhoti, etc. For elders, we purchase branded quality blanke, woolen shawls. After purchasing and sorting, all the items get packed in sacks and transported to districtwise rented warehouses in West Bengal. After this, we distribute these materials among villagers with the help of Gram Sevak, WB, local NGOs and local administration. The joy on the faces of the needy and underprivileged people when they receive these much-needed items, fuels our commitment to work harder to continue these initiatives.

Support to Disabled

In our mission to support those who remain unnoticed, BDS Social Work extends a helping hand to physically disabled individuals within the downtrodden and below-poverty-line communities. We have distributed essential tools, such as wheelchairs and handicap cycles, to those in need. These aids provide mobility and independence, making life a bit easier for these remarkable individuals, ensuring they can lead more fulfilling lives despite their physical challenges.

Study Materials Distribution

BDS Social Work consistently engages in the distribution of uniforms, books, pencils, and sports equipment to young kids. This regular activity is geared towards supporting needy students, ensuring a smoother educational journey. By providing essential educational resources, we aim to empower these students, remove barriers to learning, and foster an environment conducive to their academic success and personal development.

Blood Donation Camp for Thalassemia Patient

We recognize the critical need for blood in individuals affected by thalassemia. In order to assist them, we organize blood donation camps. These camps provide an opportunity for individuals to donate blood and make a positive impact on someone’s life. Through these efforts, we hope to increase awareness about thalassemia and the importance of blood donation. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those affected by this condition.

Swab Test for Stem Cell Donation

Stem Cell donation helps in curing blood-related life-threatening diseases such as leukemia, lymphoma etc. To assist the people suffering from these diseases we have collaborated with DATRI organization and conduct swab tests for stem cell donation through which we can identify potential donors and the patient can find a ray of hope for life. By conducting these tests, we also aim to increase awareness about the importance of stem cell donation and encourage people to contribute to this life-saving act and become donors.

Food Distribution

Feeding the hungry is the noblest of works. BDS Social Work is dedicated to addressing the plight of the underprivileged who cannot afford proper food. We organise a food distribution program, providing cooked meals to these deprived communities and also in orphanages. We also arrange food relief and reach to those natural disaster-affected areas where people need them urgently. Our initiative aims to alleviate hunger and bring a glimmer of hope to those in need, ensuring that no one goes to bed hungry in our community.

Ensuring Girl’s Health

Recognizing the significance of girls’ hygiene, BDS Social Work has undertaken the responsibility of safeguarding their health, particularly among school-going girls. We are actively working to install sanitary napkin vending machines in schools. This initiative assures girls to access sanitary napkins at a minimal cost whenever they need, ensuring their well-being and enabling them to continue their education without disruption due to menstrual hygiene concerns.

Health Camps

Health is a fundamental human right, irrespective of one’s background. BDS Social Work is committed to enhancing the well-being of underprivileged individuals in rural areas. In some underserved areas of rural Bengal where basic necessities are scarce, quality healthcare remains a distant dream. We strive to bridge this gap by offering free healthcare facilities, including health camps providing check-ups, medicines, and treatment. Blood donation camps, particularly for Thalassemia patients and those in need, are part of our efforts. We express our deep gratitude to the dedicated medical professionals who make these outreach programs successful, aiming to ensure that everyone has the healthcare they deserve.

Distribution of seeds, saplings of vegetables

In the village of Poushi near Kalinagar bus stoppage, our initiative reached the Antyodoy Anath Ashram, an orphanage. We distributed seeds and saplings of various vegetables, fruits etc. for a sustainable approach to growing their own food. Currently, they proudly harvest 65kg of different vegetables regularly, securing their food needs and providing an income source. This initiative goes beyond ensuring their sustenance; it empowers the residents with self-sufficiency and financial independence, contributing to their overall well-being and development.

Tree Plantation

A tree is our most intimate contact with nature. Trees are vital for safeguarding the environment, mitigating climate change, enhancing air quality, and preserving biodiversity. As part of our environmental protection efforts, we have launched extensive tree-planting campaigns. We mainly focus on planting fruit trees because it not only benefits the environment but also generates income for the local communities after the trees start bearing fruits. Additionally, we also distribute seeds to encourage people to actively participate in environmental preservation. Our aim is to create both a stable income-generating source for needy villagers and a greener and more sustainable environment for all.

Disaster Relief

In times of crisis, it is our duty to stand by the needy, and BDS Social Work takes this commitment seriously. We reached to Kedarnath during the disaster for five times with essential supplies such as food, medicine, and water. Additionally, we donated a cheque of Rs. 25000 during the Kerala floods. Our commitment to swift and meaningful assistance reflects our dedication to alleviating suffering and ensuring the well-being of those facing adversity. This steadfast support is a testament to our mission of making a positive impact in times of need.

Social Awareness Program

BDS Social Work regularly conducts Social Awareness programs. These programs are usually led by our young volunteers and their dedication. These programs aim to inform people about important social issues and provide solutions to tackle them. The young brigades passionately address various concerns, spread awareness and reach out to empower communities to create positive change. It’s our way of making a difference and fostering a more informed and responsible society.

Distribution of Equipment at Sramajibi Hospital Srerampore

BDS Social Work recently distributed hospital goods and articles to advance the health service of Sramajibi Hospital Serampore. This initiative aimed to support the hospital in providing quality healthcare services to patients. The donated items included medical supplies, equipment, and other necessary items, which will help in improving the hospital’s infrastructure and facilities. BDS Social Work is committed to improving access to healthcare services for all and will continue to support such initiatives in the future.

Picnic

We organize an annual picnic as a fun escape from daily monotony, with exciting games, food, and entertainment. It’s a break from routine, allowing members, and volunteers, to explore new places in a relaxed setting and some of our beneficiaries also join us. The day brings happy memories, strengthens friendships, and boosts morale, contributing to a positive atmosphere within our community.

Covid Support

India has unleashed an unprecedented public health crisis caused due to the large-scale spread of COVID-19 infection in all parts of the country. BDS Social Work is actively addressing this by distributing food baskets containing dry ration, personal protective equipment, and hygiene kits to support poor and vulnerable families affected by COVID and providing aid to frontline workers, including medical and paramedical staff, in villages, contributing to the collective fight against the pandemic.

Old Age Home and Rehabilitation

Elderly are a Treasure to be treasured. We empathize with the challenges faced by abandoned elderly citizens who lack care, shelter, and basic necessities. We are working to rehabilitate them by establishing an old age home, and offering a safe haven with care, food, and medical attention. We aim to ensure our elderly population receives the respect and support they rightfully deserve.

Cultural Program

Each year, we host vibrant cultural programs, providing children and enthusiastic individuals a platform to showcase their talents in music, drama, dance, and more. These events allow participants to express themselves creatively and demonstrate their skills with great enthusiasm. It’s a wonderful opportunity for the community to come together, celebrate diverse talents, and appreciate the vibrant cultural expressions within our midst.
